Zoé Drion – Bio

Zoé is studying Bioscience Engineering at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (University of Liège), Belgium. She is currently completing her Master’s degree in Forest and Nature Management by working at the Icelandic Seal Centre.

Her interest lies in monitoring the population dynamics of wild animals. She has just finished her Master’s thesis on the red fox population living in the Hautes Fagnes State Nature Reserve, Belgium (MSc thesis: Estimation of the current density of Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) in the Hautes Fagnes Nature Reserve, and synthesis of observations of the species in Hertogenwald since 1983). The main objective of this work was to estimate the density of foxes using photographs from camera traps.

In addition to scientific research, she attaches great importance to the popularisation of science. Sharing knowledge with a young or uninformed public through exhibitions, visits and various projects is an aspect she would like to integrate into her future career. Popularisation also allows her to express her artistic sensibility, through scientific illustration for example. The internship she is doing at the ISC is a great opportunity to develop these various interests.
