Open Lecture by Zoë Drion – 7.10.2021 – 20:00

In Belgium, the Hautes Fagnes State Nature Reserve is home to a very special bird the Black Grouse It is an emblematic and protected species, of which only a few individuals
remain The predation of the Red Fox on this bird is one of the obstacles to its survival.

In order to take adequate management measures to promote the recovery of the Black Grouse, it is necessary to study the local fox population, of which little is currently known.

During this talk I will present the findings of my master thesis. Its double objective was to estimate the current number of foxes in the area using camera traps and to see how the population has evolved since the 1980’s by studying the history of fox sightings.

Brontë and Laura have worked in the Center’s Seal Research Department this summer on field research and analysis of seals.

The lectures will be in English. Coffee and chocolates will be served.

Good attendance at the Icelandic Seal Center this summer

There has been a good turnout at the Icelandic Seal Center this summer and we have had more visitors this mid-summer than last year. Icelanders, as well as foreign tourists, have been diligent in visiting us. We have received visits from school groups, tourist groups, both foreign and Icelanders.

The questions about the seals in the show have been great luck in all age groups, especially in families. The main exhibition is in Icelandic, English, and German.

Local Ice Cream

At the beginning of the summer, on the Seal Center’s 15th anniversary, we started working with Rjómabúið in Erpstaðir and we sell local ice cream from them until the end of August.

We encourage locals as well as others to have a good day and visit the Seal Center.
