Walruses in Iceland is a new exhibition at the Icelandic Seal Center in Hvammstangi, which opened on 20 May 2022.
This special exhibition on walruses is owned by the Icelandic Museum of Natural History.
Dozens of such animals have been seen off the coast of the country in recent decades; vagrants that always attract a lot of attention. Recent research by scientists shows, however, that a special and independent Icelandic walrus population lived in Iceland for millennia, which became extinct in the first centuries after settlement.
