Now we are open tuesdays til saturdays from 12 to 15.

Outside these hours groups are welcome to book a visit by calling 451 2345.

The Seal Center was visited today by Professor Andreas Muhar who is Deputy of the Institute of Landscape Development, Recreation and Conservation Planning at BOKU University in Vienna. The weather was perfect for his visit to both the Center and the seal watching site at Illugastadir with Head of the Tourism Department, Dr Leah Burns.

Regularly Holar University hosts lectures open for everyone given by various scientists on various topics. The lecture series is called “science and soup”. On march 19th Sandra Granquist, head of our biology research department gave a lecture on Cross diciplinary research in nature based tourism: The balance between protecting seals and promoting sealwatching.

Recently we at the Seal Center got a nice visit from Sweden . Olle Karlsson from Naturhistoriska riksmuséet and Kalle Lundström frá SLU came to meet with Sandra Granquist our head of biology research department. 

The topic for their meetings was ways to increase cooperation between these three institutions as well as collaborating on future research projects. Being in contact with leading specialists in other countires is very important for the specialists at the Seal Center to get new ideas and share knowledge.  

We thank Olle and Kalle for their visit.
