RESEARCHERS, INTERNS, AND VOLUNTEERS AT THE ICELANDIC SEAL CENTER

The Icelandic Seal Center, in cooperation with Hólar University and the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, have established a formal internship and student research program. Management and coordination of this program is through Hólar University and the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute. The Icelandic Seal Center is always interested in partnerships with academic and research institutions, and other nature-based organizations to help interested people gain real-life experience and to develop new skills. If you are interested in becoming an intern—or if you are interested in developing your research project with us—first, see that you qualify. Then, read our guidelines before submitting an application.
The Icelandic Seal Center currently has no funding to pay graduate researchers or interns. Graduate researchers and interns must have their own funding source. Please note that only researchers with specific training can work directly with wildlife.
Eligibility requirements for research positions
- Graduate students working on a project towards the requirement for graduation and have:
- a clearly defined research agenda approved through their home institution,
- a designated mentor or supervisor at their home institution and,
- a designated mentor or supervisor at the Icelandic Seal Center
- Fulbright scholars
- Other funded researchers and scholars
Eligibility requirements for internships
Internships are open to undergraduates or graduates who are enrolled at Hólar University in Iceland or a university abroad and have:
- a clearly defined learning or career objectives,
- a designated mentor or supervisor at their home institution and,
- a designated mentor or supervisor at the Icelandic Seal Center.
