The First Lady Eliza Reid and her daughter Edda visited Húnaþing vestra on Friday, but she was the guest of honor at the Hipp festival, which was held this weekend.
She also visited the Icelandic Seal Center where Guðmundur, Chairman of the Board, Sandra, Jessica, Hafþór, Eric, Zoé, and others welcomed them.
The Seal Center museum is formally closed for the winter from 1 October. But if you are interested in bringing a group to us, you can book an appointment by phone at +354 451 2345 or by e-mail at info@selasetur.is.
The seal museum will be open at Hvammstangi International Puppet Festival) on Saturday 9 October, from 12-14.
There is still traffic at the Icelandic Seal Center and it has therefore been decided to extend our opening hours until 30 September. It will be open from 11-15 every working day (Monday to Friday). Be welcome to the Seal Center!
This winter, the Icelandic Seal Center will continue with a series of lectures where scholars from various backgrounds will come and give lectures. We start the autumn semester with the first lectures on Monday 23rd August at 20:00 in the Seal Center. This time, some of our scientists will be giving two lectures, namely the biologists Brontë Harris from England and Laura Redaelli from Italy. Brontë and Laura have worked in the Center’s Seal Research Department this summer on field research and analysis of seals.
The lectures will be in English. Coffee and chocolates will be served.
More about the Seal Center’s lecture series can be found here
There has been a good turnout at the Icelandic Seal Center this summer and we have had more visitors this mid-summer than last year. Icelanders, as well as foreign tourists, have been diligent in visiting us. We have received visits from school groups, tourist groups, both foreign and Icelanders.
The questions about the seals in the show have been great luck in all age groups, especially in families. The main exhibition is in Icelandic, English, and German.
At the beginning of the summer, on the Seal Center’s 15th anniversary, we started working with Rjómabúið in Erpstaðir and we sell local ice cream from them until the end of August.
We encourage locals as well as others to have a good day and visit the Seal Center.
